### **A Decade of Being a CareDriver — and Over 1,000 Smiles!**

Today, we’re thrilled to introduce you to Susan J., a remarkable CareDriver who has been making a difference in the lives of children and families for a decade! With over 1,000 rides under her belt, Susan has a dedication and commitment to safety that is inspirational.

**What made you decide to become a CareDriver?**

A chance to work with kids, and a chance to stop working in a law firm after 30 years.

**Tell us about your caregiving experience. How does it play a role in your work as a CareDriver? **

I have two grown children of my own, now ages 45 and 48, and [I was] a drum and bugle corps “mom”… volunteer for 12 years. I’ve always enjoyed working with kids.

**What are the most important things you gain from being a CareDriver? **

Being a “surrogate mom” to riders by encouraging them and being an emotional supporter. Every day is a new experience picking up kids from school — their lives can be so complex!

**Have you learned anything surprising from your riders? **

I hear a lot about kids’ hopes and dreams, as well as their everyday lives.

**What advice would you give to someone considering becoming a CareDriver?**

Be prepared to encourage and enjoy great conversations. My riders become “my [HopSkipDrive children].”

**Do you have any advice that would be useful for other CareDrivers?**

Always listen and share — these kids need and love that. Also, don’t speed, and do take the corners slowly.

**How important do you think HopSkipDrive’s mission (to create opportunity for all through mobility) is, and why do you think it’s important?**

[HopSkipDrive] provides not only a service to busy parents, but also a safe environment for their kids.

**Is there anything else you’d like to share with us about your experience as a CareDriver? **

I can’t describe how invaluable my [CareDriver] experience has been for me! I love the work, and I take it very seriously.
