Meet Susan D., a Los Angeles resident who’s been brightening the lives of families as a CareDriver since August 2022. Susan’s story is one of both practicality and passion. Driven by a love for children and the need to make extra income, she found the perfect fit as a CareDriver.  But Susan brings more than just transportation to the table — her caregiving experience shines through in her dedication to the well-being and positive development of the children she drives. “I am a senior member of society but have a very youthful spirit,” she shares. “I love encouraging young people to create beautiful futures and stay in school.”

Read on to learn more about Susan and her inspiring journey.

**What are the most important things you gain from being a CareDriver?**

Getting children home and to school safely, and learning a lot about young people and their lives.

**Have you had any special experiences with riders that have been meaningful to you?**

I drove a student who is deaf for an entire school year. I was able to learn a lot about the hearing-impaired and their challenges and contributions to society.

**Have you learned anything surprising from your riders?**

How students feel about their teachers and what they expect from them.

**What advice would you give to someone considering becoming a CareDriver?**

Make sure you love children and teenagers, and be open to listening to their challenges and problems.

**Do you tell others (such as family and friends) about HopSkipDrive?**

Yes, I tell everyone about my job driving students safely to and from school.

**Do you have any advice that would be useful for other CareDrivers?**

Make sure you have big shoulders and big ears to listen to the students.

**How important do you think HopSkipDrive’s mission (to create opportunity for all through mobility) is, and why?**

I think it’s a great company and I hope it thrives.
