Meet Greg C.: From 911 dispatcher to Safe Ride Support Team Member

Our Safe Ride Support is vital to CareDrivers, Ride Organizers and Riders. That’s why we want to introduce some of our Safe Ride Support team members — starting with Greg C.

Greg has been with HopSkipDrive for one year. Before he joined us, he was a 911 dispatcher for 10 years, and he’s still a volunteer firefighter.

What are your interests and hobbies?

In my spare time, I enjoy playing computer video games, building computers and hanging out with my amazing wife and my adorable son! We enjoy going to the beach, amusement parks, and just love having fun!

What’s your favorite part about interacting with CareDrivers and clients?

The fact that we get to talk to so many people, in different situations.

What’s the funniest HopSkipDrive story you can recall?

I usually work in the mornings, so some clients, parents and CareDrivers have gotten to know my name and voice. Recently, I had to call a parent for a specific ride. She said, “You know, I don’t even have this listed as HopSkipDrive in my phone, I have it listed as ‘Greg’ because I talk to you so much! This made me laugh and really made my day!

Why is safety important to you?

Safety is of the utmost importance for me because without any type of safety measures, the unpredictable could happen. Safety is especially important when dealing with children or the elderly. Being a Safe Ride Support Specialist has definitely heightened my awareness of safety.

What’s your favorite Safe Ride Support memory?

When I was able to schedule a last-minute ride for a family that desperately needed it.  The family was in a vulnerable position. Finding them a CareDriver meant the world to them. They were extremely thankful that I was able to do so.

What would you tell a parent or transportation director who was unsure about using HopSkipDrive?

HopSkipDrive is a valuable tool that helps get your loved ones where they need to go in a safe manner. With our background checks and fingerprinting, I feel comfortable letting my child ride with a CareDriver.

The CareDrivers who use the HopSkipDrive platform are vetted, must have caregiving experience, must pass background checks and must have a solid understanding of how to successfully deliver our mission to our clients.

What would you tell a potential driver who might be unsure about driving with HopSkipDrive?

I would say that being a CareDriver is a lot of fun. A lot of the children really enjoy talking to CareDrivers, and CareDriver can really get to know Riders if they drive them on a regular basis. CareDrivers love it when they are able to get a Ride Series with the same Rider(s).
