Top 5 reasons to become a HopSkipDrive CareDriver in San Diego

HopSkipDrive is an alternate transportation provider that offers safe, reliable rides to students and seniors in San Diego, California. From East San Diego to North Coastal, all of our San Diego CareDrivers enjoy good pay, flexible hours, and the opportunity to connect with others in their community.

Read on to find out five reasons why CareDrivers love driving for HopSkipDrive.

Customize your own flexible schedule

At HopSkipDrive, CareDrivers set their own part-time work schedules. Our San Diego drivers decide when they’d like to work, on what days and for how long. Only want to work Mondays and Tuesdays? Refuse to leave Central San Diego? All of that is up to you!

When you drive for HopSkipDrive, you’ll control what your workday looks like. That flexibility is key to driver satisfaction, which promotes a more positive HopSkipDrive experience for CareDrivers and Riders.

Earn up to $32 an hour

If you’re looking for a part-time job as a driver in San Diego, you’ll want to compare how different companies pay their contractors. The average Uber driver in San Diego makes about $22.36 an hour. CareDrivers on the HopSkipDrive platform can make up to $32 an hour, plus bonuses.

For our CareDrivers, this is great news. The ability to earn a good wage and work with kids is really special.

One CareDriver loves her Riders so much, she joked she’d drive them around town for free.

“I’ve grown to love a few of my regulars. I would go get them for free if I had too!” said one CareDriver.

Make money during retirement, or outside regular work hours

Many San Diegans on the HopSkipDrive platform work another part-time job or are semi-retired. These caregivers have other responsibilities. Sometimes, they’re stay-at-home parents, part-time nurses or retired social workers.

On the HopSkipDrive platform, CareDrivers get to drive kids around on their own time, making a good wage while giving back to their community. It’s a great situation for a lot of our CareDrivers, who love the idea of paid volunteerism, but don’t want to work around the clock.

Said one CareDriver, “the flexibility of the job gives me the opportunity to do the other things I enjoy doing.”

Join a team of amazing, empathetic caregivers right in San Diego

When you sign up to become a HopSkipDrive CareDriver, you’ll be teaming up with some really amazing people. That’s because all of our CareDrivers are more than just part-time drivers. They’re experienced, empathetic caregivers, too!

HopSkipDrive requires all its drivers to bring at least five years of caregiving experience to the table. This prerequisite helps create a positive, consistent experience for all our riders. That’s why nearly 30% of our drivers have education backgrounds, and almost 80% of them are parents.

What are the other requirements to become a CareDriver? All drivers must be at least 23 years of age, undergo rigorous background checks, prove they’re driving records are clean, and drive a reliable, 4-door vehicle that’s less than 10 years old.

Make a difference in your San Diego community

Whether they live in North Central or North Inland, San Diego’s most vulnerable groups rely on CareDrivers to get where they’re going. HopSkipDrive transports all kinds of people, including foster youth, children experiencing homelessness, students with special needs and seniors citizens. These populations in particular need HopSkipDrive to remove the transportation roadblocks that prevent access to educational equity and healthcare for all.

While all work is meaningful, many CareDrivers have a particular sense of purpose when they help people in their San Diego neighborhoods.

“What I love most is having the opportunity to help those that need and depend on our service,” said one CareDriver about her experience with the HopSkipDrive platform.
